Quo Vadis, Aida?
It would have been easy for “Quo Vadis, Aida?” to have coasted by on Being Important—Being Important, after all, got the terrible “Nomadland” the Best Picture Oscar. Instead, “Aida?” chooses to care for craft and the result is a film as beautiful as it is difficult, anxiety inducing, and horrifying. This is the sort of film I’d not show to children not just because of its content but for the maturity it takes to understand what is unfolding before your eyes; I’d suspect most would understand the subtext of some conversations, but, well. Probably should’ve won Best International Feature.
