Spiral: From the Book of Saw

The Saw films are not peak cinema. They are entertaining trash whose best outings are the ones that are the least insulting to one’s intelligence. That “Spiral” manages to be an insult to the “legacy” of these films renders it not just the worst of the series but among the worst horror films ever made. Amid the unspectacular gore are timid ruminations on police brutality, recycled plot twists that were lame when they were recycled five films ago, and the nigh-humorless comic stylings of Chris Rock, his best jokes coming from his attempts at drama. Torturous from start to finish.
