Throw out the commercial success brought on by this match (Austin was an upper-midcard guy going into this, believe it or not) and judge it just on its merits. Fine: this is in the conversation of the best matches ever hosted in the United States and easily the best match the WWF hosted of the 90s, coming across as a real brawl while also achieving the sort of spectacle that's come to define wrestling and concluding with one of the best finishes in the history of the genre. A triumph in nearly all respects save for Vince McMahon's hammy commentary.
