Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (marketed in Japan as “Super Mario Bros. 2”)

I can see why it took a long time for this to cross the ocean. There is humor to be found in many levels, owing to the trollish nature of the design, but it’s diametrically at odds with the game’s feel and consequence for failure; the below score might have been far lower without save states. No less than Shigeru Miyamoto has said he isn’t much of a fan of this game, but I don’t think it’s completely without merit or a bad title. If you wanted more of the first “Mario”, here you go, wish granted via monkey paw.
