Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

I forgot how funny games can be just being themselves. “6 Golden Coins”, the precursor to the Wario games (this makes more sense as a Wario game than a Mario game), is all about throwing in weird imagery and changing the rules from level to level, not so much challenging the player (until the end) as much as it garners befuddlement and amusement. Somehow, I ended up in space, and Mario reacted little to the change of scenery beyond putting on a space suit. That’s the kind of game this is—go with it and veg out to this weirdness.
