Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (1991 arcade game) (version found in the Switch port of The Cowabunga Collection played for review)

Returning to this game some decades removed from last encountering it in the arcades (and spending countless hours playing the SNES port) represented an odd but ultimately positive experience. There’s a bit more strategy than the first TMNT arcade game, presentation is improved by leaps and bounds, and whether you’ll prefer the soundscapes in this or the SNES version is up to personal taste. That said, many of the most praised elements of this game came from the quality-of-life improvements with the console version as this is (still) mostly a mindless, though satisfying, button basher. Satisfying in a vacuum, mostly.
