The Hunger Games (2012 film)

The source material was begging for a treatment in a different format, and many of the novel’s issues were fixed in the transition. Free from Katniss’s inner monologue, the camera is free to pick up the most interesting angles for the benefit of the story, including one crucial scene whose inclusion paves a better path for the story than the author’s approach, which (unwisely) put it off for the sequel. Lazy allegories still aggravate and one relationship that needed Katniss’s inner monologue communicated suffers a bit, but this is a rare case of the film being better than the book.
