The Raid: Redemption (premiered as “The Raid” at TIFF 2011 and was marketed in some areas with that title)

This has been built up to me as one of the greatest action films ever made, and it almost lives up to that hype. The fights are brutally and wonderfully crafted, riding the razor’s edge of considerable spectacle accomplished with the wholly practical—you’ll never look at a fridge the same way again. Heck, as I understand it, the English sub fixes a multitude of problems with the dialog, making this the rare film where NOT knowing the native language makes it play better. A long rush of infectious carnage that is only slightly overrated by enthusiasts of the genre.
