The World to Come

There’s likely a tastelessly written sketch on a mid-90s comedy show about how in the future, the niche of “old-timey gay love stories” would become a crowded market, but the reality is I’d watch all of them if they were as good as “The World to Come”. It is lovingly crafted, from the cinematography to the costumes to the makeup to the performances, to such a degree that it quickly wraps you in its spell even as it tells a story with little in the way of surprises. Might be doomed to be the most underrated film of the year.
