Top Gun (1986 film)

The most fun I had with this high school drama masquerading as an action film was when I realized “Mass Effect” was referencing this film, of all things, with how it opened. Other than that, “Top Gun” is incredibly stupid and not in a charming way. There’s basically no story beyond the hate-bromance between Iceman and Maverick, and when they aren’t sneering about who just doesn’t get what, the soundtrack cranks one of the, like, three songs they could license, and while I’ve enjoyed works that repurpose limited soundscapes with fantastic results, “Twin Peaks” this isn’t. Just boring and mindless.
