Wolfenstein 3D (played in ECWolf for review on Bring It On difficulty)

The key gameplay loop of “Wolfenstein”—damage piles up quickly on both sides, meaning you can mow down enemies with little difficulty but still need to take care to clear the corners, rookie—is plenty satisfying and admirable considering its age. The problem is it is stretched over fifty-nine levels and episodes vary wildly in difficulty. The first three are easy, the fifth episode is the best, and the final episode is an exercise in frustration, tedium, and, in my case, sanity. I think this is worth revisiting, especially in small doses, but if you do, know when to stop.
