Resident Evil 4
With REmake's classy rendition of survival horror selling horribly, Capcom decided to go the complete opposite direction with the next numbered entry in the series and, if 5 and 6 are proof they had no idea why 4 worked, accidentally created one of the greatest games of all time. 4 combines "Evil Dead 2" comedy-horror with a shooting system that would influence the entire following console generation, and while the controls aren't as intuitive as modern third-person shooters of today, 4 is designed around its clunkiness, a system that ensures constant close calls. The only game I've bought four times.
