The Red Balloon (1956 short film)

I was sold on this being a landmark film, having won multiple Oscars, BAFTAs, and Cannes prizes back in the day and still enjoying a positive reception from contemporary audiences. I can’t say I hated it, but nothing about it wowed me or struck me as an experience my life would have been incomplete had I missed it. “A boy hangs out with a sentient balloon” represents most of the experience, and while there are a few ingenious shots, I was mostly left wanting something to happen. A fine short film to show children, but I am not a child.
