True Grit (2010 film)

Go figure that a remake of an overrated John Wayne joint (even Wayne admitted he didn’t deserve his Academy Award) in which the actress that portrayed the protagonist ended up competing for Best Supporting Actress is one of the most conventional films made by the Coen brothers. It’s basically ninety minutes of introduction to, and palling around with, three strong-willed people with drastically different views on the world before the revenge part of the premise kicks in, and while the material isn’t fantastic, Daniels, Damon, and Steinfeld make the most of it. A little overrated itself, but still very good.
